Dr. Shin is a professor in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, at Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea since 2012. He was Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Vice President of Research Foundation/Technology Holdings in Yonsei University. He is a recipient of the United States National Science Foundation CAREER award in 2008, and Research and Development Recognition Award by Korea Electric Power Company (KEPCO) in 2016.
He received the B.S. degree from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea, in 1996 with early completion honors and the M.S. degree from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA, in 1997. He received the Ph.D. degree from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, The University of Texas at Austin, TX, USA, in 2004. Upon his graduation, he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, The University of South Carolina as an Assistant Professor. He was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2011. He joined the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Yonsei University in 2012.
Dr. Shin is currently building his research group; Energy Informatics Laboratory at Yonsei University. The research interests of his group are characterized by applications of advanced digital signal processing techniques including artificial intelligence and big data analysis to diagnostics and prognostics problems in future electric power transmission & distribution systems. His research group is establishing collaborative research with global leading research groups, universities, and companies such as National Science Foundation (NSF) Industry University Cooperative Research (I/UCRC) GRid-connected Advanced Power Electronic Systems (GRAPES) Center.
